Evaluation.

To create my front cover and contents page i used Adobe InDesign CS2

When creating my front cover i created a layout grid. I then moved onto the title of the magazine. I named it Lewes mag and decided to go with the font Kristen ICT and went with point 90. I then moved onto the slogan which reads 'The Lewes College Magazine'. I then added in the background for my front cover, as seen above. I had to put this photo as fit to page to insure it was the right size. I then began to add articles titles, i decided to use yellow font, to create a contrast with the background. I then added in the issue num ber, college website and date directly at the bottom of the page, remebering to keep within the layout grids. To complete the front cover i created and added in a logo for Sussex Downs College and put it towards the top, as seen in my flat plan.

I then went onto completing my magazine task by adding a contents page. Firstly i added lay out grids. I didn't add all the names of the articles of my magazine into this contents, by instead planned where they would go - i also did this with the photos. I used the same type and same colour font as the cover title, but used point 72 instead. I also added in a plan of where the contact details would go, had this been a real contents page.

This is the final version of the Magazine front cover:

Magazine

For my front cover i had to take 2 medium close up photographs using a digital camera, upload the 2 photos and then pick the best one to use as my background for the front cover. I had to make sure the person was standing within a suitable part of the college to insure there was suitable...because this would make the magazine seem tacky and unprofessional. I had to make sure the person in the photograph was looking directly at the camera.

The photo to the left is an example of one of my photos. I decided not to pick this one as the background was to plain.

The photograph to the right is the photo i have decided to use as my background on the front cover. I decided to use this photo as the background is clear and this photo is the right shot.

I created a flat plan to get an idea of the layout of my front cover. I did this on an A-4 piece of paper and scanned it into the computer. Here is a copy of my flat plan:

Sussex Downs College AS Media Studies Kayleigh Kracke

This is my blog for the Preliminary Coursework task, which involves designing a cover for a Sussex downs magazine. I'm going to produce this magazine cover using Adobe InDesign and Adobe photoshop, in order to add text, edit images etc... I will have to take a photograph using a medium close up. I have to concentrate on the mise-en-scence such as, the photo will taken from the mid chest up. The angle will be straight foward and the person in the photo will direct their focus to the camera lense. I will have to concentrate on the lighting of the photo, the background, and the colours and costumes.
